ELC & Oil additives
Effect of cleaning by ELC on oil additives:
1. Introduction:
Electrostatic Liquid Cleaner can remove almost all particles in oil regardless of size. In order to check the effect of cleaning by ELC on oil additives, the following tests Were conducted.

3. Test Method.
- 3-1 To clean oil by ELC, 3 liter new oil without additional contaminants.
- 3-2 To clean, by ELC 3 liter of new oil mixed with JIS standard dust to the level of 10mg/100ml
- 3-3 To filter by 0.8 micron membrane filter,new oil mixed with JIS standard Dust to the level of 10 mg / 100 ml.
4. Oil Samples for analysis.
- Sample A - New oil before cleaning
- Sample B - Oil cleaned 30 minutes by test method 3-1
- Sample C - Oil cleaned 5 hours by test method 3-2
- Sample D - Oil cleaned 5 hours by test method 3-2
- Sample E - Oil filtered by test method 3-3
Direct Emission spectro analysis:
The oil samples from A to E were examined by direct emission spectro analysis.
The results of the analysis were as follows

Evaluation.
- The following seven metals were detected by the analysis : Fe, Si, P, Zn, Ca, BA, Mg, traces of 'Fe' were negligible.
- 'Si' was found 3 PPM in the new oil and also found 2-3 PPM in the cleaned oil. The detected 'Si' is considered a part of silicon oil . 10-15 PPM Silicon oil is blended in the new oil as anti foam additive.
Existence of 'Si' in the cleaned oil proves that ELC cannot remove Anti foam additives.
- The detected PPM of P and Zn are slightly irregular but this irregularity is within the limit of analysis error. This shows that ELC cannot remove chemical compounds with P and Zn which are supposed to be oxidation inhabits.
- The detected PPM of Ca, BA, and Mg are almost changeless. This shows That cleaning by ELC cannot remove chemical compounds with Ca,BA & Mg.
Summary
Cleaning by ELC cannot remove additives which are soluble in oil.
